Parliamentary candidate Stuart Anderson is launching a survey to hear about how flooding affects residents and what can be done to support them.
Every year flooding puts 5.7 million homes and businesses in England at risk. Shropshire is one of those places most at risk, especially along the River Severn. Properties along the River Severn have been flooded twice in the past six months. In October, Storm Babet flooded 109 properties internally and 28 businesses, and in January, Storm Henk flooded 74 properties and 32 businesses.
These were figures raised by Ludlow MP Philip Dunne in a recent debate in parliament on flood recovery, where Mr Dunne raised questions for the Minister and highlighted gaps in the current framework of support. Mr Dunne also mentioned that many more properties than those officially counted are likely to have been affected due to worries residents and business owners have for insurance claims.
With that in mind Stuart Anderson, the Conservatives Parliamentary Candidate for South Shropshire, is launching a survey to hear about local people's experiences of flooding and the support available to them.
Stuart Anderson said:
"Philip Dunne has been a fantastic voice in Parliament on this issue. I want to build on this through my campaign to hear about people's experiences. This will help me as I hope to take on the baton and represent the people of South Shropshire. I want to secure more support for those who's lives have been turned upside down by flooding, as well as taking more preventative measures."
