Stuart Anderson MP ‘delighted’ as Post Office services saved in Clunton and Clunbury
Stuart Anderson is delighted that local post office services have been saved for local residents in South Shropshire. It follows a campaign that Stuart led after receiving an ‘unplanned closure notice’ on 21st July 2024, informing him that more local services were being stepped down.
Upon receipt of the notification, Stuart wrote to the Chief Executive of the Post Office to relay local concerns. In his letter, he called for action to ensure services remain accessible and available to local residents. On Monday 29th July, Stuart then received a response which confirmed that the decision had been “reconsidered.” It means that the mobile services will continue at both Clunton and Clunbury.
Stuart has welcomed the outcome as a major step forward in his campaign to enhance public services across South Shropshire. He added that many residents had contacted him since the launch of his campaign to let him know how valued post office services are, especially given Shropshire’s rurality. Stuart has urged more residents to show greater support for the services. The Post Office confirmed a further update to customers with details of the visiting times will be shared shortly.
Stuart Anderson MP said:
“Earlier in July, I shared the news that I had received a concerning notification of unplanned service closures informing me that more Post Office services in South Shropshire were being stepped down. After raising the issue directly with the Chief Executive of the Post Office, I am delighted that the decision has now been reconsidered and that mobile services will continue to be provided at Clunton and Clunbury."
Stuart added:
"Enhancing public services is a key priority of mine, and I want to ensure that they remain as accessible and available as possible to residents across South Shropshire. So, I will continue to campaign for better protections for valued rural services such as these. I would also urge more residents to show their support for these great services.”
Providing outreach services is a measure that the Post Office takes to ensure that communities have the access they require to Post Office products and services, particularly in local areas where permanent solutions are not always possible due to lack of premises or retailers. In these communities, outreach branches ensure customers are not left behind and can continue to access the Post Office services on which they rely.
