Stuart Anderson MP welcomes next steps for £312 million hospital transformation
Stuart Anderson MP has welcomed the next steps in the hospital transformation, a £312 million package of upgrades to local health facilities in the region. A new, four-storey hospital expansion will begin later in July as part of the Hospitals Transformation Programme, previously known as the ‘Future Fit’ programme, led by The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. It will enable greater capacity for patients with immediate, life-threatening illness or injury - ensuring that patients are seen by the right teams at the right time. This means the hospital can better support immediate patient care and deliver a reduction in delays for patients.
Stuart welcomed the announcement that work on the new facilities will begin this month, having made improving public services a key part of his plan for South Shropshire. It is the latest stage in a long-term campaign initiated by Philip Dunne and continued by Stuart Anderson, who recently called on the new government to ensure that the funding is fully delivered.
This reconfiguration project will make the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital a specialist emergency care site and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford a dedicated planned care site, with both sites providing urgent treatment centres, diagnostics, outpatient clinics, midwife-led maternity services, frail and elderly services, and day case chemotherapy.
Stuart Anderson MP said: “I know waiting for treatment is a concern for local people. Health is a top priority of mine so I am really pleased to see preparations for the £312 hospital transformation programme are due to take place. Philip Dunne played an integral role in securing this funding, and I am delighted to have helped get it over the line. When complete, it will deliver much greater capacity for those with immediate or very serious life-threatening illness or injuries - ensuring patients are seen by the right teams at the right time.”
