Stuart Anderson steps up support for fellow veterans in South Shropshire
Stuart Anderson, South Shropshire’s Conservatives Parliamentary Candidate, has stepped up his pledge to support fellow veterans in Shropshire. He has launched a support navigator on his website, designed to help them locate government support available for them and their loved ones - whether they have just returned to civilian life or are in need of assistance at a later stage in their lives.
Stuart said that he wants Shropshire to becomes the best place to be a veteran, a key part of which is being able to easily access a range of services spanning health, housing, education, and welfare. The Government has introduced a range of measures to help deliver on this pledge, such as discounted railcards; guaranteed interviews to make it easier for veterans to join the Civil Service; more Armed Forces champions in the Department for Work and Pensions; a national insurance holiday to encourage employers to maximise the talents of veterans in our workforce; improved access to housing; and easier access to physical and mental healthcare support through the NHS.
To help veterans locate the Government support right for them, Stuart’s navigator signposts the various schemes available. It also lists external support available via the Confederation of Service Charities, a membership organisation representing the whole Armed Forces Community such as Blesma, m Royal British Legion and others.
The Armed Forces Covenant is an especially important tool in this, ensuring veterans are treated fairly across all sectors of society. Every Local Authority, including Shropshire, has signed the Covenant and over 11,000 organisations have signed pledges in support of the Covenant to the wider benefit of the Armed Forces community. Stuart has now called on businesses across Shropshire to sign up to the Covenant, demonstrating their support for veterans and families.
Stuart Anderson said:
“Having served in the Armed Forces myself, I am absolutely committed to making Shropshire the best place to be a veteran. There are 2.4 million veterans in Great Britain. They have given so much in service of our country and should be provided with a gold standard of support. This means ensuring that it is as easy as possible for them and their loved ones to access the right help and guidance. That’s why I have launched my veteran’s support navigator, to help them easily find the support that is available to assist them at whatever stage they are in life’s journey. I also call upon businesses across Shropshire to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating their support for veterans and their loved ones.”
